Biographical Sketch

Iulica Zana received the B.S. (1994) and the M.S. (1995) degrees in Materials Science and Engineering, from The University “Politehnica” of Bucharest, Romania.

Upon coming to the USA in 1998, he joined the Center for Materials for Information Technology (MINT) in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, were he worked on deposition and characterization of magnetic thin films. Concurrently, he pursued a Ph.D. degree in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from The University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa which was awarded in May 2003.

Since then, he joined Prof. M.G. Allen’s group at Georgia Institute of Technology as a post-doc, working on developing and implementing magnetic materials into new microfabricated devices. His research interest spun across magnetic materials, their deposition (electroplating and sputtering) and characterization. He is in charge with the Magnetic Characterization Laboratory within Prof. Allen’s group (see the Lab’s webpage for details).
